Checklist of irrational thoughts



1. I can consider myself worthwhile only if all the significant people in my life approve of me, respect me, or love me.
Resulting problem: DEMAND FOR APPROVAL

2. I must be thoroughly competent and adequate in all respects if I am to consider myself worthwhile.
Resulting problem: UNREALISTIC HIGH SELF-EXPECTATIONS

3.  If I or others behave badly or ignorantly, then I or others should be blamed and punished for it.
Resulting problem: BLAME-PRONENESS

4. My unhappiness is caused by other people, and by situations. I have little or no ability to control my own happiness.
Resulting problem: EMOTIONAL UNPREDICTABILITY AND IRRESPONSABILITY

5. My genetic inheritance and my past experiences are important determinants of my present behaviour and will always affect me
Resulting problem: ANXIOUS OVER-CONCERN

6. It is easier in the long run to avoid rather than face difficulties and responsibilities.
Resulting problem: AVOIDANCE AND PROCASTINATION

7. There are people that are much stronger and wiser than myself, and I ought to rely on them
Resulting problem: DEPENDENCE
 
8. If there is a change that something dangerous or fearsome might happen, it will help if I worry about it.
Resulting problem: SENSE OF  HELPLESSNESS

9. There is a precise, correct and perfect solution to every human difficulty and problem, and it ought to be found.
Resulting problem: PERFECTIONALISM
